Adelaide Economic Development Authority Business Summit 2023

On 24 May 2023 the Chairman of the SA Productivity Commission, Mr Adrian Tembel, spoke at the AEDA Business Summit on innovation policy, providing a high level overview of the Commission’s recent inquiry. Reviewing the data on innovation outputs, Mr Tembel noted that across seven key indicators of relative performance South Australia had gone backwards on five and made no progress on the remaining two. As a result he suggested that the focus of the state’s innovation policies should shift, away from a focus on precincts and built form and towards a focus on our innovative people. In particular, by supporting our universities to transform themselves into entrepreneurial universities, focused on delivering economic and social dividends for the state as well as on academic excellence. And in so doing unleashing the innovative potential of the 26,000 post-graduate students and 4,000 in our three research universities.
